American Motorcyclist Staff
Each month, American Motorcyclist is painstakingly assembled by some of the most experienced and talented editors, writers, art directors and photographers in the motorcycle industry.
Mitch Boehm
Editorial Director
Mitch Boehm has been riding and racing for more than 50 years, and his motorcycle industry and publishing experience is nearly as vast, with stints at Motorcyclist (Road Test Editor, and later Editor-in-Chief), Cycle World (Managing Editor) and American Honda (R&D) before landing at the AMA in 2021. “Our goal is pretty simple,” he says. “Build the most compelling, informative and entertaining magazine we can each month, and do so in a way that communicates to membership and the industry the amazing work the AMA does – much of which happens behind the scenes.”
Keaton Maisano
Managing Editor
Initially working as a sportswriter with a journalism degree before arriving at the AMA in 2021, Keaton took an unorthodox path to working for the AMA and American Motorcyclist. Now an adopted son of the moto-journalism world, he has thoroughly enjoyed learning about all aspects of motorcycling, and he takes great pride in telling the stories of motorcyclists throughout the country.
Todd Westover
Art Director
Todd grew up in Wisconsin riding a Honda SL100 before his outstretched toes could touch the ground. In 1977 his family moved to Dana Point, CA and into the center of the dirt bike mecca that was Southern California at the time, racing at all the local motocross tracks (Carlsbad, Saddleback, Indian Dunes, etc.) and attending the Roger DeCoster School of Motocross. Todd has art directed several magazines including Hot Rod and Motorcyclist. He is currently enjoying life as a successful fine artist, creating colorful paintings in his distinctive floral style.
Kerry Hardin
Assistant Art Director
Before becoming the AMA’s Senior Graphic Designer, Kerry Hardin spent years working as a magazine and advertising art director for clients ranging from healthcare organizations to car and motorcycle magazines to powersports industry clients such as Dunlop Tire, American Honda and others. She was also Group Art Director for Petersen Publishing’s Motorcycle Division, working on Motorcyclist and Dirt Rider magazines.
Joy Burgess
Writer and Creative Consultant
Joy Burgess, currently the AMA’s Director of Marketing & Communications, has nearly 20 years of editorial and marketing experience. Before joining the AMA in 2021 as Managing Editor of American Motorcyclist, she held several editorial and marketing positions, including Editor of Woman Rider. Burgess has spent much of her time in the industry focusing on youth riders and women who ride, telling their stories and helping both groups find community in motorcycling.
Jack Emerson
Govt. Relations Editor
After working briefly as a sportswriter out of college, Jack dove into the world of moto-journalism after joining the AMA in 2023. Now the communications manager at the AMA, Jack has immersed himself into the motorcycle industry while striving to tell the stories of the individuals and groups that push the sport forward.
John Burns
Contributing Editor
John Burns always wanted to be a writer but backslid into moto-journalism instead, his path to fame first waylaid in 1989 by Phil Schilling, Editor of Cycle magazine and builder of Old Blue the Ducati. Once he’d sampled the constant flow of new motorcycles, lavish press junkets and the SoCal lifestyle, there was no turning back in spite of the constant danger and crushing responsibility. No need to thank him; he’s just doing his job.
Aaron P. Frank
Contributing Editor
From 200-mph superbikes to 12-foot-long choppers and everything in between, Aaron Frank has ridden — and written about — nearly every type of motorcycle. After working as editor-at-large at Motorcyclist magazine for 15 years, Aaron took a brief detour down brand-and-marketing backroads in support of clients including Harley-Davidson, Indian Motorcycle, Victory Motorcycles and others…but now he’s returned to the wild world of the written word.
